Slow Version 6
The fairy and the woodcutter
Once upon a time, there lived a poor but diligent woodcutter.
The woodcutter was an old bachelor who had not been able to get married even after he was 30 years old.
One day, while he was working hard cutting wood, a deer came running to him from somewhere and said,
“Woodcutter, woodcutter, please save me. A hunter is coming after me to catch me.”
The woodcutter felt pity for the deer, so he hid the deer behind a tree.
Soon, a scary-looking hunter appeared and asked the woodcutter.
“Hey, didn’t a deer come running this way?
“It ran away that way.”
The woodcutter lied to the hunter.
Once the hunter disappeared, the deer, relieved, came out and said to the woodcutter.
“Thank you, woodcutter. You saved my life. If you have a wish, please tell me anything. I will grant it.”
The woodcutter said that his wish was to get married.
Then, the deer said.
“The day when the full moon rises, go up to the pond on top of the mountain.”
“Fairies from the sky will come down to take a bath there.”
“Go there and hide one of the wing clothes (celestial robes) that they have taken off.”
A fairy without her wing clothes can’t go up to the sky, so you just have to take her as your wife.
But, until you marry the fairy and have three children with her, you should never give her wing clothes back to her.
When the full moon rose, the woodcutter went to the pond on top of the mountain as the deer said.
There, some fairies were really taking a bath.
The woodcutter snuck up to them and stole one of their wing clothes.
A while later, the fairies finished taking a bath and started going up to the sky one by one.
“Oh, no! Where are my wing clothes? My wing clothes have disappeared. What should I do...?
One fairy who had lost her wing clothes couldn’t go up to the sky, and was crying sadly.
Then, the woodcutter approached her and said,
“Fairy, I have your wing clothes. So please marry me. I will make you happy.”
Like that, the woodcutter married the fairy.
Some time passed, and between them, two children were born.
And then one day, the fairy said to the woodcutter,
“Since I’ve already given birth to two children, please give me back my wing clothes. I want to wear them just once.”
The woodcutter felt pity for her bagging desperately, so he took out the wing clothes that he was hiding, and gave them to her.
And then, very excited, the fairy put on her wing clothes.
But then, within a split second, the fairy flew up to the sky, with the two kids, one in each of her arms.
“Honey! Honey! Don’t go!”
The woodcutter shed tears in regret, but his children and their wife went to the sky and never returned again.
