여우와 신 포도
The Fox and The Sour Grapes
여우 한 마리가 길을 걸어가고 있었어요.
A fox was walking down the road.
여우는 하루 종일 아무것도 먹지 못해서 너무 배가 고팠어요.
The fox had not eaten anything all day long, so he was very hungry.
‘오늘은 정말 하루 종일 아무것도 먹지를 못했네. 배고파. 어디 먹을 거 없을까?’
'Today, I really haven't eaten anything. I am hungry. Is there any food to eat?'
길을 걸어가던 여우는 포도밭을 발견했어요.
While walking, the fox found a field of grapes.
‘우와, 포도다. 진짜 맛있겠다.’
'Wow, grapes! They look delicious.'
포도는 아주 잘 익어서 달콤한 냄새가 났어요.
The grapes were very ripe and smelled sweet.
여우는 포도를 따서 먹으려고 했지만 키가 닿지 않았어요.
The fox tried to pick the grapes and eat them, but his height was not tall enough to reach them.
배가 고팠기 때문에 포도가 더 맛있어 보였어요.
Because he was hungry, the grapes looked even more delicious.
포도에 손이 닿지 않자 여우는 뛰어서 포도를 따려고 했어요.
Since the grapes were out of his reach, he tried to pick them by jumping.
하지만 아무리 노력해도 손이 전혀 닿지 않았어요.
But no matter how much he tried, his hands couldn't reach them at all.
포도의 달콤한 냄새가 여우를 괴롭혔어요.
The sweet smell of the grapes tortured the fox.
여우는 화가 나기 시작했어요.
The fox started getting angry.
‘저 포도는 분명히 아주 신 포도일 거야. 그래. 그래서 맛이 하나도 없을 거야.’
'Those grapes are clearly very sour grapes. So they must taste bad.'
여우는 포도를 먹지 못하자 포도가 아주 시고 맛이 없을 거라고 생각하기로 했어요.
Since the fox couldn't eat the grapes, he decided to think that the grapes were very sour and tasted terrible.

Verb stem + -아/어/여 보이다
When -아/어/여 보이다 is added after a verb stem, it means that something “seems to” do something or “seems to be” that way.
Ex)
바쁘다(to be busy) + -아/어/여 보이다 = 바빠 보이다 (to seem busy)
어렵다(to be difficult) + -아/어/여 보이다 = 어려워 보이다 (to seem difficult)
이상하다(to be strange) + -아/어/여 보이다 = 이상해 보이다 (to seem strange)
맛있다(to be delicious) + -아/어/여 보이다 = 맛있어 보이다 (to seem delicious)
