유승완: 안녕하세요! 유승완입니다. 오늘의 표현은 “잘 지내요?”예요!
Seung-wan: Hello! This is Seung-wan Yu. Today's expression is "잘 지내요?"

김예지: 네! “잘 지내요?”, “잘 지내요?” 저는 이 표현을 핸드폰으로 메시지를 보낼 때 많이 써요. “현우 씨, 잘 지내요?” 이렇게요!
Yeji: Yes! "잘 지내요?, "잘 지내요?" I use this expression a lot when I send text messages on my phone. "Hyunwoo, are you doing well?" Like this!

유승완: 오, 맞아요! “잘 지내요?”는 “잘 있어요? 현우 씨, 잘 있어요?” 이런 뜻이에요. “잘 지냈어요?”는 “잘 있었어요?” 이런 뜻이에요.
Seung-wan: Oh, right! "잘 지내요? means "Are you doing well? Hyunwoo, are you doing well?" "잘 지냈어요?" means "Have you been doing well?"

김예지: 맞아요. 오래 못 본 친구한테 물어봐요. 예를 들어서, 제가 현우 씨를 여섯 달 전에 봤어요. 지금이 12월이에요. 그런데 6월에 봤어요. 그리고 못 봤어요. 그러면 “현우 씨, 잘 지내요?” 이렇게 말할 수 있어요.
Yeji: Right. You ask (this question) to a friend whom you haven't seen for a while. For example, I met Hyunwoo 6 months ago. It's December now. But we saw each other in June. And we haven't met (since then). Then, you can say "Hyunwoo, are you doing well?"

유승완: 네, 맞아요! 전화나 문자로 “현우 씨, 잘 지내요?” 이렇게 물어봐요.
Seung-wan: Yes, right! Through a phone call or text message, you ask "Hyunwoo, are you doing well?"

김예지: 네. 그리고 제가 현우 씨를 오늘 만났어요! 6월에 보고, 오늘 만났어요. 그러면 “반가워요” 이렇게 말할 수도 있어요. “현우 씨, 반가워요! 잘 지냈어요?”
Yeji: Yes. And I met Hyunwoo today! We saw each other in June and met today. Then, you can also say "반가워요." "Hyunwoo, nice to see you! Have you been doing well?"

유승완: 맞아요! “현우 씨, 잘 지냈어요? 너무 반가워요!” 이렇게 말할 수 있어요. 그리고 “어떻게 지냈어요?” 이렇게 말할 수도 있어요.
Seung-wan: Right! You can say "Hyunwoo, have you been doing well? It's very nice to see you!" And you can also say "How have you been doing?"

김예지: 네, 맞아요! “현우 씨, 반가워요! 어떻게 지냈어요? 어떻게 지냈어요?” 이렇게 말할 수 있어요. 승완 씨!
Yeji: Yes, right! You can say "Hyunwoo, nice to see you! How have you been doing?" Seung-wan!

유승완: 네!
Seung-wan: Yes!

김예지: 그러면 제가 승완 씨한테 “승완 씨, 잘 지내요? 잘 지냈어요?” 이렇게 물어볼 수 있어요?
Yeji: Then, can I ask "승완 씨, 잘 지내요? 잘 지냈어요?" to you?

유승완: 음… 그것은 조금 어색해요. 예지 씨랑 저랑 매일 보고 있어요. 어제도 보고, 오늘도 보고, 내일도 볼 거예요. 그러면 “잘 지내요?” 이렇게 물어보면 조금 어색해요.
Seung-wan: Hmm… That's a bit awkward. You and I meet every day. We saw each other yesterday, today and we will meet tomorrow, too! Then, it's awkward to ask "잘 지내요?"

김예지: 맞아요. 이 표현은 오래 보지 못한 사람들한테 써요.
Yeji: Right. You use this expression to someone whom you haven't seen for a while.

유승완: 네, 대화 들어 봐요!
Seung-wan: Yes, let's listen to the dialogue!

김예지: 승완 씨! 안녕하세요. 잘 지냈어요?
Yeji: Seung-wan! Hello. Have you been doing well?

유승완: 예지 씨! 너무 반가워요. 저는 잘 지냈어요. 예지 씨도 잘 지냈어요?
Seung-wan: Yeji! It's so nice to see you. I have been doing well. Have you been doing well, too, Yeji?

김예지: 네! 저도 잘 지냈어요!
Yeji: Yes! I have been doing well, too!

유승완: 여보세요. 예지 씨?
Seung-wan: Hello. Yeji?

김예지: 여보세요. 승완 씨! 반가워요! 잘 지내요?
Yeji: Hello. Seung-wan! Nice to talk to you! Are you doing well?

유승완: 네, 예지 씨. 저는 잘 지내요! 예지 씨도 잘 지내요?
Seung-wan: Yes, Yeji. I'm doing well! Are you doing well, too, Yeji?

유승완: “잘 지냈어요?” 이렇게 물어보면, “네, 잘 지냈어요” 이렇게 대답할 수 있어요. 그리고 “잘 못 지냈어요” 이렇게 대답할 수도 있어요.
Seung-wan: When someone asks "Have you been doing well?, you can answer like "Yes, I have been doing well." And you can also answer like "I haven't been doing well."

김예지: 네, 맞아요. “잘 못 지냈어요”, “잘 못 지냈어요.” 그런데 이렇게 말하면 다른 사람이 많이 걱정할 거예요. 놀랄 거예요.
Yeji: Yes, right. "잘 못 지냈어요." But if you say that, the other person will worry a lot. They will be surprised.

유승완: 네, 많이 놀라고 걱정할 것 같아요. “예지 씨, 무슨 일이에요?”, “안 좋은 일이 있었어요?” 이렇게 물어볼 것 같아요.
Seung-wan: Yes, I think they will be surprised and worried. "Yeji, what happened?", "Did something bad happen to you?" They might ask like this.

김예지: 네, 맞아요.
Yeji: Yes, right.

유승완: 네! 여러분, 오늘도 수고하셨습니다!
Seung-wan: Okay! Everyone, you did a great job today, too!

김예지: 네! 다음 시간에 만나요. 안녕히 계세요!
Yeji: Yes! We will see you next time. Bye!
