Lesson 5
Welcome to another lesson in the Advanced Situational Expressions series. Throughout this series, we take a look at common situations and some of the advanced expressions you can use in each of them. In this lesson, we will introduce various expressions you can use when you are worried about something or worried about a particular situation.
1. 걱정돼요.
= I am worried.
= It worries me.
2. 불안해요.
= I am anxious.
= I feel nervous.
* “걱정돼요” is stronger than “불안해요”. Typically, you are usually “불안해요” at first, and then if the problem is not resolved and you become even more worried, you become “걱정돼요.”
3. 걱정돼 죽겠어요.
= I am worried to death.
= I am so worried.
4. 불안해 미치겠어요.
= I am so anxious (that) it is driving me crazy.
5. -(으)ㄹ까 봐 걱정이에요.
= I am worried that ... might happen.
= I am worried that they might...
Ex)
다칠까 봐 걱정이에요. = I am worried you might get hurt.
늦을까 봐 걱정이에요. = I am worried I will be late.
너무 어려울까 봐 걱정이에요. = I am worried it might be too difficult.
너무 쉬울까 봐 걱정이에요. = I am worried it might be too easy.
경은 씨가 화낼까 봐 걱정이에요. = I am worried that Kyeong-eun might get angry.
6. -(으)면 어떡하죠?
= What if … happens?
= What if they...?
Ex)
화내면 어떡하죠? = What if she gets angry at me?
경화 씨가 늦으면 어떡하죠? = What if Kyung-hwa is late?
7. 어떻게 하면 좋죠?
= What should we do?
* This sentence can also be shortened to “어떡하면 좋죠?”
8. 마음이 안 놓여요.
= I feel uneasy.
= I cannot stop worrying.
* 놓이다 is the passive voice of 놓다.
9. 잘 해결됐으면 좋겠어요.
= I hope the problem is resolved well.
10. 큰일이네요.
= That is not good.
= That is a big problem.
11. 이 상황에서 어떻게 걱정이 안 돼요?
= How can you not worry in this situation?
