Lesson 3
Welcome to another lesson in the Advanced Situational Expressions series. Throughout this series, we go over common situations and some of the advanced Korean expressions you can use in each of them. In this lesson, we will introduce various expressions you can use when you are unhappy about something or are upset about a particular situation.
1. 오늘 기분이 너무 안 좋아요.
= I am feeling terrible today.
= I am so upset today.
2. 지금 그럴 기분 아니에요.
= I am not in the mood for that.
* You might use this if you are not in a good mood and someone teases you a bit.
3. 지금 이야기할 기분 아니에요. 말 시키지 마세요.
= I am not in the mood to talk now. Please leave me alone.
* “말 시키지 마세요” literally means “Do not make me talk.” By saying this, you may seem like an unfriendly person.
4. 진짜 열 받는 일이 있었어요.
= Something really maddening happened.
= I am so mad right now because of something that happened earlier.
* 열 means “heat”, so people use the expression 열 받다 when they are angry and can feel the heat from their anger and their blood is boiling.
5. 사람이 어떻게 그래요?
= How can someone be so mean?
= How could they do that to me?
6. 진짜 어이가 없네.
= I do not even know what to say. I am so mad.
* You can say this to yourself when you are at a loss for words.
7. 저 지금 너무 화나는데 참고 있는 거예요.
= I am so mad right now, but I am trying not to show it.
8. 진짜 속상해요.
= I am so upset.
= I am so sad.
* 속 = inner part / 상하다 = to rot
9. 너무 서운해요.
= I am so disappointed.
10. 이번에는 믿고 있었는데 완전 실망했어요.
= I trusted them this time, but I am really disappointed.
* 완전 is originally a noun but in spoken Korean, it is often used colloquially as an adverb
to mean "totally" or "really".
