Welcome to another lesson in the Advanced Situational Expressions series. Throughout this series, we take a look at common situations and some of the advanced expressions you can use in each of them. In this Advanced Situational Expressions lesson, we are going to take a look at some expressions you can use or expect to hear when you meet someone after not seeing them for a long time.

1. 오랜만이에요.
= Long time no see.
* Between friends, you can just say “오랜만” or “오랜만이야.”

2. 이게 얼마 만이에요.
= It has been a long time.

3. 얼마 만에 보는 거죠?
= How long has it been since we last met?

4. 별일 없죠?
= Everything alright?
* You might feel the need to answer in detail, but you can also just reply, “네, 별일 없어요.”

5. 요새 어떻게 지내요?
= How are you doing these days?

6. 지난번에 본 게 벌써 2년 전이에요?
= The last time we met was already two years ago?
* You can change the verb 보다 to other verbs like 만나다 or 모이다.
Ex) 지난번에 만난 게 벌써 2년 전이에요?

7. 작년 가을에 보고 못 봤죠?
= We have not seen each other since last fall, right?
* You can replace 작년 가을 with other time related words, such as 지난주, 작년, 3년 전, or even 네 생일.

8. 앞으로는 자주 연락하고 지내요.
= From now on let us stay in touch more often.

= Why is it so hard to meet you?

10. 오랜만에 만났는데 하나도 안 변했네요?
= It has been a long time and you have not changed a bit.
* Koreans also often say, “왜 안 늙어요?” which means, “Why aren’t you aging?”

11. 3년 전에 보고 처음 보는 거죠?
= This is the first time in three years we are seeing each other, right?

12. 옛날 그대로네요.
= You are exactly the same as before.
= You have not changed a bit.
* If it has not been a really long time, you can skip 옛날 and just say, “그대로네요.”
