비행기 태우다
= to flatter, to make someone blush with excessive compliments

태우다 = to give someone a ride, to pick someone up

1. 제 차에 네 명 태울 수 있어요. = I can give a ride to 4 people in my car.
2. 저 좀 태워 주세요. = Please give me a ride.
3. 비행기가 사람들을 태우고 이륙했어요. = The airplane had people board and took off.

Meaning Of The Phrase
사람들이 불필요한 칭찬을 해 줘서 부담스럽거나, 충분히 칭찬 받을 일을 했지만 칭찬의 말이 너무 지나친 상황을 상상해 보세요. 사람들이 좋은 말을 너무 많이 해 줘서, 공중에 떠 있는 듯한 기분이 들 수 있겠죠? 그런 경우에, 이 표현을 사용해서 사람들에게 칭찬을 너무 지나치게 하지 말아 달라고 할 수 있어요. 비행기를 타면 공중에 떠 있게 되기 때문에 이런 표현을 사용합니다.

Imagine a situation where people are giving you compliments that you don’t think you deserve, or even compliments that you definitely deserve but in a very overwhelming manner. You will feel like you are floating in the air with all the positive words people say about you. In this case, you can say this phrase to tell them to “stop flattering” you so much. The phrase literally means “Don’t put me on an airplane.” and people say this because if you are on an airplane, you are high up in the air.

비행기는 타는 건데요.
It’s something you ride.

하늘을 날아다니는 교통수단이죠.
It’s a means of transportation that flies in the sky.

그냥 “경화 씨 예뻐요.” 이렇게 하면 그냥 칭찬을 하는 건데
If you just say “Kyung-hwa, you look pretty.” that’s a normal compliment.

이렇게… / 그렇죠. 얼굴이 빨개지잖아요.

이렇게 너무 심하게 칭찬을 하는 경우가 있죠.

네. 이것을 재밌는 표현으로 “비행기 태우다.”라고 해요.

제 생각에는 칭찬을 들으면 기분이 좋아져서 하늘에 붕 뜬 기분이잖아요.

그래서 “비행기 태우다.”는 더 과장한 표현인 거죠.
