주연: 언니는 혼자 있는 거 좋아해요?
Jooyeon: Do you like being alone?

경은: 저는 혼자 있는 거 좋아해요. 주연 씨는요?
Kyeong-Eun: I like being alone. How about you?

주연: 저도 너무 좋아해요.
Jooyeon: I also really like it.

경은: 혼자 뭐 해요?
Kyeong-Eun: What do you do alone?

주연: 혼자 영화도 보고, 혼자 밥도 먹어요. 그런데 술은 혼자 안 마셔요.
Jooyeon: I watch movies alone, I also eat alone. But I don’t drink alone.

경은: 요즘 혼술이 유행인 거 알아요? 혼술은 혼자 술 마시는 것을 말해요. 혼밥은 혼자 밥 먹는 거고요.
Kyeong-Eun: Do you know that drinking alone is popular these days? They call drinking alone “hon-sul”. “Hon-bab” is eating alone.

주연: 맞아요. 저는 혼술은 못 해요. 그런데 제 친구는 혼술을 좋아해요.
Jooyeon: That’s right. I can’t drink alone. But my friend likes drinking alone.

경은: 그러면 혼자 술집에 가서 술을 마셔요?
Kyeong-Eun: So do they go to a bar alone and drink?

주연: 네.
Jooyeon: Yes.

경은: 그 친구는 가족들하고 살아요?
Kyeong-Eun: Do they live with their family?

주연: 아니요. 자취해요.
Jooyeon: No, they live alone.

경은: 자취를 하면 집에서도 혼자 마실 수 있는데 술집에 가요?
Kyeong-Eun: If they live alone, they could just drink at their house, but they go to a bar?

주연: 네. 그래도 그 친구는 밖에 나가서 술 마시는 것을 좋아해요.
Jooyeon: Yeah, even so, they like going out to drink.

경은: 진짜 신기하네요.
Kyeong-Eun: That’s interesting.

주연: 저는 친구들하고 술 마시는 것이 좋아요. 그래서 혼술은 이해가 안 가요.
Jooyeon: I like drinking with friends. So I don’t understand drinking alone.

경은: 저도 그래요. 또 혼자 있을 때 하는 거 있어요?
Kyeong-Eun: I’m the same way. What else do you do alone?

주연: 저는 혼자 운동을 하러 가요.
Jooyeon: I go exercising alone.

경은: 그런데 주연 씨는 진짜 혼자 있는 건 아니네요. 카페에 혼자 가도 다른 사람들이 많고, 운동을 하러 가도 운동하는 곳에 사람들이 많고요.
Kyeong-Eun: But you’re not really alone. Even if you go to a cafe alone, there are lots of other people, and even if you go exercising alone, there are lots of people there, too.

주연: 맞아요.
Jooyeon: that’s right.

경은: 저도 그래요. 아무도 없는 곳에 혼자 있는 것은 안 좋아해요.
Kyeong-Eun: I’m that way, too. I don’t like being alone in places where there’s no one around.

주연: 정말 비슷하네요.
Jooyeon: We’re very similar.
