여러분들은 유행을 하면 그 유행을 따라가는 편이에요?
Do you guys tend to follow the trend when something becomes popular?

아니면 자기만의 개성이 뚜렷한 편이에요?
Or do you have your own unique style?

제 생각에 한국 사람들은 유행에 민감한 것 같아요.
I think Korean people are very sensitive to what is popular.

어떤 스타일이 유행을 하면 그 유행을 굉장히 빨리 따라가는 편인 것 같아요.
If there is a trending style, then they follow that trend almost immediately.

그러면 한국 사람들은 어떻게 유행을 빨리 따라 하게 될까요?
Then how do Korean people follow the trend so quickly?

제 생각에는 연예인의 스타일을 많이 따라 하는 것 같아요.
I think they follow the celebrity style most of the time.

예를 들어서 드라마에서 전지현이 바른 립스틱, 전지현이 바른 아이섀도 색깔.
For example, the lipstick that Jeon Jihyun wore, the eye shadow colors that Jeon Jihyun wore on her TV drama.

이렇게 드라마가 유행을 하게 되면 그 드라마에 나온 스타일을 다 따라 하는 것 같아요.
Like this, if a drama becomes popular, people follow the styles on the drama.

그런데 사실 가끔 안 따라 하고 싶을 때도 있잖아요.
But honestly, there are times when you don’t want to follow it.

그런데 옷 가게나 화장품 가게의 주인들이 엄청 빠르게 그런 스타일의 옷을 갖다 놔요.
But the clothes shops or make up store owners are quick to sell these trending clothes.

“그 드라마가 유행을 한다.” 하면 밖에 나가서 옷 가게를 가면
When there is a “popular drama,” and you head out to the shops,

그 드라마의 여자 주인공이 입은 스타일대로 옷을 파는 거예요.
they sell clothes that are exactly in the style of the drama’s heroine.

“송혜교가 이 드라마에서 이 립스틱을 발랐어요.”라고 홍보가 되어 있는 거죠.
They would advertise it saying, “Song Hyegyo wore this lipstick in this drama.”

그러면 왠지 사고 싶어져요.
Then somehow, I want to buy it.

‘아! 송혜교가 발랐었지. 그때 굉장히 예뻤는데.’ 하면서 저도 모르게 이렇게 집고 있더라고요.
I find myself picking them up, thinking ‘Ah! Song Hyegyo wore this. It was really pretty.’

제가 지금 하얀 블라우스와 꽃무늬 치마를 입고 있잖아요.
I’m wearing a white blouse and floral skirt right now.

사실 몇 년 전만 해도 저는 블라우스를 입은 적이 한 번도 없었어요.
To be honest, until a few years ago I had never worn blouses.

왜냐하면, 블라우스가 유행을 하지 않았기 때문이죠.
Because the blouses weren’t popular back then.

그래서 저는 블라우스를 입어 본 적이 없는데요,
So I have never worn blouses before,

요즘에는 옷 가게를 가면 모두 블라우스만 팔아요.
But these days all of the clothes stores only sell blouses.

그래서 저도 그냥 사 봤어요.
So I just bought one.

어때요? 어울리나요?
How is it? Do I look good in it?

그리고 요즘에는 복고가 유행이에요.
Also, retro style is popular these days.

그래서 이렇게 블라우스를 안에다 넣어서 입어야 된대요.
So they say you have to tuck your blouse in like this.

예전에만 해도, 몇 년 전만 해도 이렇게 넣어서 입지 않고,
Before, even just a few years ago, you wouldn’t have tucked it in,

블라우스를 이렇게 빼서 입었었거든요.
but instead wear it untucked.

그런데 옷 가게에 가면 그 옷 가게의 점원들이 저한테 이렇게 말을 하는 거죠.
However, when I go to the store, the staff will say these things to me.

“요즘은 이런 블라우스가 유행이에요. 한번 입어 보세요.”
“Blouses like these are popular right now. Try it on.”

“요즘은 복고가 유행이에요. 블라우스를 넣어서 이렇게 치마를 입어 보세요.”
“Retro style is popular these days. Try wearing the skirt with the blouse tucked in.”

“정말 잘 어울리네요.”
“You look really good in it.”

그래서 옷 가게에 가면 지금 유행하는 스타일의 옷이 있고요,
So when you go to the stores, they will have the clothes in the trending style,

또 그런 스타일의 옷을 추천을 해 줘요.
and also recommend clothes in that style.

그리고 옆에서 “와, 잘 어울려요.” 이렇게 말을 해 주면.
And when they stand next to me and say, “wow, it really suits you,”

저도 모르게 유행을 따라가게 됩니다.
I somehow end up following the trend.

물론 모든 한국 사람들이 이렇게 유행을 따라가는 건 아니고요.
Of course, not all Koreans follow trends like this.

개성이 뚜렷한 사람들도 참 많아요.
There are those who have very unique styles.

그렇지만 대부분의 한국 사람들이 유행을 따라서 옷을 입고, 화장을 하고, 악세사리를 하는 것 같습니다.
However, most of the Koreans seem like they buy clothes, wear make-up and accessories following the trend.
