동물을 키우는 사람들이 점점 늘어나고 있어요. 예전에는 사람들과 함께 생활하는 동물을 '애완동물'이라고 불렀어요. 사람에게 즐거움을 주기 위한 동물이라는 뜻이에요. 그런데 요즘에는 '반려동물'이라고 부르는 사람들이 많아졌어요. 친구나 가족과 같은 존재라는 뜻이에요. 반려동물로 보통 개와 고양이를 많이 키워요.
More and more people are raising animals. In the past, animals that lived with people were called "pets". It meant animals whose purpose was to bring people joy. However nowadays, there are many people who call them "companion animals". This phrase means being more like a friend or a family member. Usually dogs or cats are raised as companion animals.
