In this episode, Angela and Peter talk about housing in Korea. Check out through the video some important terms related to housing, types of housing that Koreans live in, and the first impression Peter got from Korean apartments.

1. 상가
상가 refers to a building densely populated by shops.

2. 내과 [내꽈]
내과 is a field of medical science where treats diseases of internal organ. Doctor's offices in your neighborhood that specialize in the field are also called 내과.

ex) 제일 가까운 내과가 어디예요? Where is the nearest doctor's office?

3. 아파트
아파트 is a Konglish word which comes from the word "apartment." When you say 아파트, it can refer to either an entire apartment building or a single flat in the building.

4. 오피스텔
오피스텔 is a Konglish word combining of "office" and "hotel." It is a multi-purpose building with residential and commercial units.

5. 원룸 [원눔/월룸]
원룸 is a Konglish word for a one-room studio apartment, Korean pronunciation of "one room." It can be a unit of 오피스텔, 아파트, or just normal residential house.

6. 고시원
고시 means "examination," usually administered by the government. 고시원 origianally refers to accommodations for students studying for exams but these days it's generally just for people who look for cheap residence.

7. 단독 주택 [단독 쭈택]
단독 주택 literally means "detached" or "stand-alone" house. It is usually a single-family house, but it can be shared by multiple households depending on the situation. It is usually compared with apartments and called 주택 for short.

ex) 아파트 사세요, 주택 사세요? Do you live in an apartment or a house?

8. 전세
전세 is a way of paying for your house rent. A renter gives a lump-sum deposit instead of paying monthly rent.

9. 월세 [월쎄]
월세 is monthly rent.

ex) 월세 얼마예요? How much is the monthly rent?

10. 부동산
부동산 can mean both "real estate" and "real estate agency."
