Lesson 6
Welcome to lesson 6! So far, all of the syllables you have learned had one thing in common: they were a combination of one consonant and one (single or compound) vowel. But in this lesson, you will be introduced to the concept of “final” or “ending” consonants. They function as the final sound in each syllable, like the letter “T” does in words like “cat”, “hat”, and “hot”.
For example, the letter ㅁ in the following syllables is being used as the final consonant.
곰
몸
감
담
잠
김
Final consonants (or 받침 as they are called in Korean) are just regular consonants placed at the bottom of a syllable, with just a couple of exceptions. Let’s find out more about them now!
