Lesson 9

힘 = power, strength, energy

들다 = to require/take (time, energy, money etc.)

Ex) 돈이 들었어요. = It cost me money.
Ex) 시간이 많이 들었어요. = It took a lot of time.
Ex) 노력이 많이 들었어요. = It took a lot of effort.

힘 + 들다 = 힘들다

1. 힘들다 = to be hard

Ex) 많이 걸었더니 힘들어요. 
I am tired because I walked a lot.

Ex) 오늘 너무 많이 걸어서 힘들어요.
I am tired because I walked a lot today.

Ex) 오늘 일을 너무 많이 해서 힘들어요.
I am tired because I worked a lot today.

2. 힘들다 = to have a hard time

Ex) 요즘 힘들어요.
I am having a hard time these days.

3. 힘들다 = to be impossible

Ex) 그건 힘들어요. = That would be difficult/impossible.
Ex) 힘들 것 같아요. = I think that would be difficult/impossible.
Ex) 그건 좀 힘들 것 같아요. = I think that would be somewhat difficult/impossible.
Ex) 그건 좀 힘들 것 같은데요. = I think that would be somewhat difficult/impossible.

피곤하다 = to be tired
졸리다 = to be sleepy

피곤해요. = I am tired.
졸려요. = I am sleepy and tired.

Ex) 이해하기 힘들지 않았으면 좋겠습니다.
